I bought a USB serial adaptor from
Maplin Electronics which wasn't
supported by linux, so I wrote some drivers for it. The company
that makes the chip
didn't want to give me any information (As usual) so I had to reverse engineer
everything. No decompilation was done I just inserted a DLL which
logged all USB messages in windows and put the device through its paces.
In the true spirit of Linux/USB I haven't provided any documentation. But
I'm sure you'll know what to do. Any trouble mail me and I'll give you
a hand. - James.
Since then Prolific have written a driver for the chip and they distribute it
as source code: search of PL2303 Linux Drivers here. My drivers are therefore old and thus
only of historical interest.
